We 3 saw huge orange sphere almost silently fly north in foothills of Sierra Nevada mountains in central California in 1980s
Object sighted in late evening sky appeared in the western sky looked like evening star. Took my eye off it for about a minute and it appeared to get brighter and closer. It looked like it was coming right at us. It stopped in midair. About a 1/2 mile away it was a mile diameter wide. Changed colors and humming noise and went north.
