This might of been in the same time of year as the Maury Island and Kenneth Arnold Incident.
Hello,
I sited a flame shaped like a welding torch; the flame was stationary above my head. What made me look up was this pointed flame was making a loud roaring noise. The flame began to rotate 180 degrees and as it did it gave off a very loud ugly roaring noise. When the flame completed its rotation it then went clear across the sky from over my head to the horizon in the snap of a finger.
This might have something to do with the Maury Island Incident by Vashon Island right in the area where I lived or the sighting by Kenneth Arnold. The only way I know this name (Kenneth Arnold) is I downloaded an article last night on my computer.
I am 72 years old now but when I was a young boy I lived in the Point Defiance area in Tacoma, Washington right by Puget Sound and about 5 miles as the crow flies from Maury Island.
One evening I was going to my next door neighbors and just as I entered their yard when I heard this noise above my head as previously described, the noise was loud enough to bring my neighbor out of his house and ask me what the noise was. I can’t remember what I told him. All these years as I have told friends what I saw and heard I have always finished the conversation with gee I wish I could be hypnotized and go back and find out how old I was.
Well, last night while watching a program about USO, underwater flying objects the program kept flashing this person’s name so I tried to get in touch with him but he turned out to be an author and I was unable to e-mail him. I wanted to notify him of my incident because it is the only one where there was noise involved. So while on the internet I was paging around and found a site UFO sightings I say Asia, and as I paged down I found sightings in the USA, I remembered I always thought I was in grade school when I saw this flame, heard this noise then watched as it flashed across the sky. So I looked in the 1940’s and lo and behold there was Maury Island staring me in the face.
I opened the site and read for the first time in my life about the man, son and dog seeing flying objects while snagging logs for lumber and firewood. Their incident happened June 21, 1947. If my incident happened in or around the same time that would make me 10 years old for I was born in 1937. If the noise was loud enough to bring my neighbor out of his house maybe others saw a strange light/flame and noise and called the cops, military, Tacoma News Tribune or others. If I was 10, I would not have read about the Maury Island Incident or the News paper about the noise and flame. Maybe Fort Lewis or the Tacoma Paper has articles about what happened that night. I might be a person that helps substantiate what others saw. Sorry it took so long to get in touch with someone.
Also I can remember the pointed flame rotated counter clockwise while looking straight up from 9 to 3 on a watch face.
It's funny if I would not of been from the Point Defiance area I never would of found this article because I would never of recognize Maury as being Maury Island which is now part of Vashon Island.
