Bright white object over Billings, MT
It was a clear summer night, the month was July or August of 1966, possibly 1965 to 1967, It was between 11 pm & 1 am. I observed a bright white round fully illuminated object at very high altitude & would guess that it was not in the atmosphere. It was slightly brighter and larger than the planet Jupiter traveling from east to west and suddenly stopped.
All illumination was gone the second it stopped, about 4 seconds later the light came back on and it immediately started moving to the east again for about 4 seconds. It only moved when it was illuminated and would come to an abrupt stop if not illuminated. At arms length it traveled about four inches and repeated the same movement to the east about five times. Traveling the same distance each time, it appeared that when the light went out that it would lock in that possession with no drifting. I noticed by the background stars that when it stopped there was no noticeable drift, very sudden stops and starts.
When the object was straight overhead it did its stop and light our routine again but this time when it moved again it headed straight north. It continued the same start and stop travel, same amount of time stopped (no light) and then traveling illuminated. It disappeared over the northern horizon.
I have always wondered if any one else has observed something like this?
