Meteorite turns into ball of light. Lands metres from me in street.
This happened a few months ago, and I've been trying to get my head around it since. Definitely not like anything I've even heard of before. I'd seen weird shit in the sky before but man, was this different.
It was about 6.15pm and I had just left my house to drive to the swimming pools. Daylight savings had recently ended so it was already very dark. I got to the end of my street, about 400m from my house when I saw it.
To give you an idea of what was around me, I was at a small cross shaped intersection. There is a small street about 80m in length, directly across from the road I was on, right next to an apartment building.
Next thing I know, before I turned left, I see what looked like a shooting star (meteorite) flying rapidly across the sky towards the horizon. Now, one of my worst fears has always been seeing a meteor hit earth and kill us all. So my immediate reaction was, "Holy fuck. That's way too bright and going for way too long to just be a meteorite. This might be the end." It travelled across the sky for a good 3 or 4 seconds, almost reaching the horizon (my guess was that it was about a few kilometres high in the sky, and miles away from me.) This is where it blew my mind.
Instead of disappearing over the horizon or hitting the earth, it floated down smoothly and gently, in a sort of arc shape and landed on the footpath, right on the little street in front of me. I felt chills run up my spine and my instincts told me to fucking get out of there.
I turned left and drove away, terrified at the idea of what the hell I just saw. I mean, nothing about it appeared sinister at all. But the sheer nonsensical and unexpected nature of it was enough to make me think it could have been anything (angel/alien/demon).
It looked just like a point of light with a glowing ring around it, no bigger than a basketball. Once it touched the footpath it was obscured by the street lights, and perhaps other objects on the footpath, and somewhat regrettably, I didn't hang around to get a better look.
The rationalist in me kept trying to think, OK maybe it was a drone, maybe it was a fucking firefly. At this point nothing seemed too ridiculous to consider. But none of them made any more sense than the other.
Has anybody else had a similar sighting? Am I missing something here? P. S if the admin of this site wants to know the location of this event, I'm happy to disclose. I know for a fact that there is a security camera right where the object landed. I contacted the owner of the building but he seemed uninterested and was not willing to check the footage for me. I think if someone official/credible contacted him, he might be pursuaded to check the cameras. The sooner the better because I don't how long they keep the footage.
