Fireball entering earths, slowed down and accelerated out of earths atmosphere
Sighting 1 of 2. On July 27th my wife and I were stargazing hoping to see some shooting stars in field just south of Clearfork Reservoir near Lexington, Ohio. The location was perfect with very little light pollution along with clear skies. At approximately 1:30 am I thought I saw what would have been the brightest shooting star I have ever seen entering Earth’s atmosphere, originating from the southwest on a bearing of 045 and 30 degrees above the horizon. The object continued to get brighter and just as I was expecting it to flame out the speed immediately slowed to that of a commercial jetliner and the brightness of a normal star. It continued along a straight line for 5-6 seconds before instantly accelerating to full speed and previous brightness as it left Earth’s atmosphere. To be clear, the object flew in the same path and was visible for approximately 7 seconds in its entirety.
I am a former pilot who from The Ohio State University flight school. As a pilot, it is imperative to understand what you are seeing and normal phenomena. I honestly thought this would be the only time I wouldn’t be able to explain a sighting only to be proven wrong, two months later.
