I was in and out of the house throughout the night observing the Perseids meteor shower. I chose a pair of bright stars in the northern sky to help keep track of the area where I was seeing the most shooting stars.
After coming out to check the sky's again for the 3rd or 4th time, I located the pair of "marker stars" I'd been using to keep track of the skies. That's when one of the two stars began moving quickly to the west, then suddenly shooting upwards and disappearing in less than a second.
