2018-01-01 - Bristol (UK/England) - Unknown

A light in the sky that got bigger and brighter without any movement

I was looking up at the night sky and was looking at visible stars. One star (i thought was a star) suddenly got brighter and brighter as if someone was shining a bright light, it also increased in visible size (very slightly). I have seen the ISS on numerous occasions and understand how it gets brighter when above and fades as it goes out of sight, this was different, the bright light remained in a constant position and did not move in any direction.

The ISS is also currently beneath the continent of Africa, so could not have been this.

The bright light faded and then looked like a normal star in size and brightness momentarily then disappeared completely not moving in any direction.

This was not an aircraft. There was no forward or sideways movement. The night sky at my angle of view was clear without any cloud cover.

The whole viewing lasted only seconds.
