Star moving in an unusual manner
As I was setting up my goto telescope tonight, I selected Vega as my first star. I next chose Dhube (in the Big Dipper).
The scope slewed way past Dhube, so I thought I had mis-identified Vega as my first star (star gazers will tell you that is hard to do!) So I looked (not through the telescope) to Vega. A little bit to the southwest of Vega (perhaps 2.5 degrees) was an equally bright star that I had noticed earlier, although I had dismissed it, as Vega is pretty easy to pick out. As I was looking at this new star, which had not moved discernably to the naked eye from it's original position, it brightened by about double, immediately faded to somewhat less than it's original brightness and began to move. I now thought "satellite". But, it moved sharply to the southwest (in a "J" sort of movement) and faded from sight. Duration of intitial brightening of object to fading from sight - probably less then three seconds. All this happened so fast that I could not get photographic evidence.
