2016-07-20 - Lake View Plantation, ME - Star

There were two sightings, primary on the lake and subsequent sighting in 2017 on campus at the University of Maine.

First sighting: Myself and three friends were enjoying the lake on a day off. At about 9-10pm, we sat out on a dock and were admiring the stars. One of us mentioned that there was a satellite passing in the sky across the lake. We watched it for a few minutes, realizing that it was not a satellite - but what appeared to be a star (identical to the appearance of all the other stars) moving in a stair-step like motion upwards. It would move up slightly, then proceed to move to the right, then up, right, up right, on and on. It did this for an additional few minutes, and we discussed the possibilities of what we were all (4 of us) looking at. At one point during this discussion, a plane flew over the lake. It was notably loud, and whatever this moving star was, it was not making any sound at all. We ruled out helicopters or planes, and assumed it must have been a drone. Next, the star began increasing in size. We took this to mean it was getting closer in proximity to us. After a minute or two of the object growing in size, it seemed to hover over an island in the middle of the lake - approximately half a mile from the dock, our location. We assumed it was still very high in the sky, until what appeared to be a floodlight shown from underneath the star and shed lights onto the trees on the island. At this point, we were all very terrified, because we weren't sure how close to us this object was, and what it was looking for or doing. It seemed very close, but it was still appearing as a star; we could not see any notable features of the object other than it looking like a big bright star - so similar that if it were stationary, we would never have focused on it. Its' motion was the only distinguishable feature of it. After the "floodlight" was shown through the trees for a brief few minutes, the object basically disappeared. We have discussed this amongst ourselves for several years now, and none of our stories to each other have changed. We were about 40 minutes away from a military base in Bangor, and most of us I think have assumed it had something to do with training exercises involving the base. I had told my university roommate this story a few times while living with him. The next sighting was a bit shocking due to the discussion with my roommate.

The second sighting was on campus. My roommate and I were smoking a cigarette in a field adjacent to the field house and the football field. We were walking around the field, when my roommate pointed out a star moving in stair-step like motions in the sky. He asked me, in direct reference to my prior story that I had told him, if that was the same thing that I had seen. I was completely flabbergasted - and answered that it was. It was the same exact object - a star moving in stair-step like motions. I was in so much shock, I noticed another stranger walking around the field. I grabbed the stranger, who was also out smoking a cigarette. I pointed to the object in the sky, and asked him to describe what he saw. The stranger said "what the f*** is that?", and proceeded to describe to us the exact same thing we were looking at. There was no increase/decrease in size, and no floodlight during this sighting. Like before, after several minutes, the object simply faded away. This sighting took place 20 minutes closer, 20 minutes away, from the military base in Bangor. This sighting took place in the spring of 2017.

To this day, I still discuss these sightings with my friends and college roommate. None of us have an explanation other than we were close to a military base. It was particularly disturbing/scary to have the story I told to my roommate validated by my roommate seeing exactly what I had described with his own eyes. Even he had admitted to me he did not believe my story prior to seeing the object that very night.
