Strange noise by Indian Ridge

Went shooting at Indian Ridge (36°29'57.4"N 115°38'01.4"W) with my brother. We had picked a spot and began setting up our temporary camp around noon. Within 15 min we heard a distant grinding sound from above us on the large hill behind us, but we made noting of it at first. But then the sound seemed to travel over us and then seemingly right in front of us. The sound was like some sort of grinding noise. I can only describe it as electrical arcing and whirling metal that pulsed, it came and went eerily. All of the bugs stopped their chirping, and the light breeze blowing through the area stopped suddenly. We ran under our tarp loaded our guns and, after a moment to compose ourselves, slowly started walking toward the sound, but as we did it seemed to begin to move quickly away towards Indian Ridge, and soon it was gone.

Later, as we were all packed up and leaving, driving down the dirt road back to Cold Creed Rd., I dropped my phone under my seat. My brother stops the car and I get out to get it. We then hear the noise again. It seemed to be on the ground maybe 50-100 ft away; but again we see nothing. While the noise pulsed we checked the sky for drones, aircraft or anything but saw nothing. Being a Sunday, no crews were working and the NDOC training facility was closed for the weekend. There were other shooters, but there gun shots were clear and distinct from the noise, actually there were no gun shots while my brother and I heard this noise.

Was this a UFO? I have no idea, we saw nothing. All my brother and I heard was the noise. We thought it creepy because it came towards us, lingered, and when we approached it, it seemed to avoid us. Has anyone every experienced this before? Maybe have an audio file I could hear for comparison? Maybe even audio sounds of commercially available drones? It might be possibly that some one messed with us, but due to how loud it was and how close it seemed I don't think it was one.
