V-shaped, then spreading out into a long line with red lights in what looked like along the edges.
Leaving the house after dark, we noticed a bright white light rising behind the house. As it rose we saw a v-shape under it. Red lights spread out into what looked like a long (cigar?) shape and moved low and silently.
We followed for about 4 miles. It seemed go slightly faster and then went beyond the hills and we never caught up with it. It looked huge and never made a sound.
