From a comercial airliner, another passenger and I watched to the west, toward the Groom Lake area, as we were heading from Phoenix to Reno, three VERY VERY bright lights that seemed to be stationary on the ground, perhaps 20 miles distant, but two of them, the ones on the left and the right, had much smaller lights intermittently going around the bright lights, blinking on and off.
The passenger with me was an Air Force nurse returning from Afghanistan - I was on my way to Seattle to see relatives.
The lights were all bright white - no colors did I observe. The nurse said she had never seen anything like what we saw and could think of no explanation.
