Orange ball flies in a line, then stops and vanishes.
Me and a friend were camping out on the shore of Paugus Bay, by a cemetery next to a supermarket named Shaw’s. It was Labor Day and several boats were out that night. The sighting occurred sometime between 11PM and midnight. Everything has quieted down and the people on the bay had all docked their boats and left as far as I can remember. We weren’t supposed to be camping where we were, which was just a small piece of land on the opposite side of the tree line from the cemetery. I was sitting there when something in the sky caught my eye. It was a large orange ball moving in a perfect line from north to south. The only object I can use as a scaling reference is the moon, which was nearly full that night. It was about 1/3 of the diameter of the moon and was pretty far above the horizon.
Suddenly, it stopped and just hung in the air perfectly still. Then after about 15 seconds it disappeared. Not faded out or flew away but disappeared. Like it was a light and someone flipped the switch. I’ve never seen anything like it.
