Possible sighting of rocket launch, seen from NYC
Looking due north at 4am, I saw what appeared to be the flame from a rocket launch from very far away. It was orange and brighter than Venus.
The approximate direction of travel was west. It was difficult to tell if its movement was NW, due W, or SW.
I noticed it when it was ~30 degrees above the horizon. At about 40 degrees, it was blocked by clouds.
The reason I say it appeared to be a rocket flame is because it looked very similar to a Space Shuttle launch into polar orbit that I watched from New Jersey many years ago.
