It was approximately 2300 hours, standing outside, no moon, very little street lights, or city lights. We live in a rural area. I was looking for satellites when I observed a Ligjt flashing on and of aprromately a second and a half apart of each flash, altitude equivalent satellite altitude traveling through th shy at a very high rate of speed, faster than jet liners. In our area, we have north and south flight plans for commercial airliners on a regularly basis. These airliners are easy visible to see strobes, port and starboard side lights and other running light. The Ligjt that I observes was as bright as some of the visible planets, ie Jupiter, urianis, etc. like a very bright start. The odd thing was the slow off and on duration off the object flashing, approximately a second, to two seconds in variation. The flashing was slower that any other air raft I have seen, commercial, or military. I watched the flashing Light move through the sky at the approxi! mate speed, or faster than satilites do. It was traveling from the northland moving south. I watched it for approxately five minutes before I lost it through the trees down range.
I went in the house to tell my wife about it. About five minutes later, we both came back outside talking about it, I was looking up for satilites when she was looking south and said," Is That It ?". I looked south and yes, there it was moving from the south, to the west. I looked at my wife and said , see that's what I saw earlier. She then said look, it moving north now. Without a arch, type turn, the Light just went from moving south, to immediately, moving north, still satilites altitude, high rate of speed, coming north back in our direction. There was no noise, when the airliners fly over us at 30, 40 feet, one can hear them. This flashing lite, no noise like satilites. We tracked from the south, to the north, for almost 10 minutes before we posted in the trees to the north. I have seem many satilites before, this appeared brighter a! nd flash ing, vs. the satilites being somewhat bright, about the same speed, but this seemed a little faster in speed.
I witnessed this same light a few Nights later, but lost it sooner due to light high cloud cover.
I have seen a lot of aircraft in my 55 years, but this did not show any carachteristics of an aircraft.
I hope your organization can give am an explanation of this.
