2014-04-22 - Cajah's Mountain, NC - Rectangle

Driving on remote road, a rectangular craft trailed by a ball of light flew directly overhead about 45-60 feet with no noise.

My wife and I were driving home from my mom and stepdad's house on Connelly Springs Rd. between Cajah's Mountain, NC, and Rutherford College, NC, towards our house in Drexel, NC. It was between 10PM and 11PM EST. We were near a portion of the road where we cross over a body of water and there are a lot of trees and cover around. My wife is in the passenger seat and tired, so she has her eyes closes and trying to catch a quick nap.

I didn't see the crafts approach, because of the trees. But they appear to have came from my right and moving towards my left in a slightly forward angle.

The lead craft was a perfect rectangle with 1 consistent light in each corner and a slowly throbbing light in the bottom center. There appeared to be a lot of textures on the bottom, also. The textures reminded me of a large computer chip, with seemingly random bumps and links, none of which were lit and were only visible when the center light throbbed at it's brightest.

The trailing craft was much, much smaller and didn't appear to be more than a ball of light. There was no visible wings, texture, or craft. It was like a ball of white light gliding through the sky, but was keeping perfect distance slightly behind the rectangular craft (maybe 2-2.5 craft-lengths behind).

Besides the appearance of the craft looking like no Earthly craft I've ever seen, the really odd things were the elevation, speed, and noise. The trees lining the road are 15-20 feet tall, I would estimate.

Elevation: The crafts were low enough that I was concerned it could have been a crashing plane, until I saw they were not losing elevation. They couldn't have been more the 45-60 feet in the air.

Speed: The crafts weren't going 100s of miles an hour, like you would expect an air-born plane or other craft to go. They appeared to be slowly gliding. Almost as if they were just cruising and so slow that it in-fact gave the impression they could speed up, slow down, or even stop as need (almost like a car). To give you an idea of their speed: The road is 1 lane on each side and a dirt shoulder on either barely wide enough to pull a car on to before you get to the treeline, and from the time they appeared over the trees to the right and disappeared over the trees to the left was about 1 verse and chorus/hook in the song I was listening to (Outsiders - Eric Church).

Noise: Like I said, my wife was trying to fall asleep in the passenger seat with her eyes close. The craft were so noise free that she never opened her eyes. I never asked her to, because I was in disbelief of what I was seeing and kind of frozen. She never knew they were there, never seen them. An Earth-made aircraft flying that close to the ground and pretty much directly over your head would make it impossible to sleep or even ignore. I never heard a single noise from either craft. Also, they never disturbed the trees. There was no blowing leaves around, no pick-up of wind at all. It was as though they weren't there.
