2014-03-15 - Miami, FL - Fireball

Huge fireball above Miami International Airport

I was working the night shift as a Security Specialist for the Miami Dade Aviation Department at Miami International Airport. At about 3 am, I came out of the guard house located at the end of the runway next to Le Jeune Road (42nd Ave) in order to stretch my legs. At that moment I looked up to the sky and noticed that there was an unusually dense and low clowd cover. The clowds were moving northbound fairly quick as it was very windy. Then all of a sudden, I saw this huge yellow fireball with a long tail, silently traveling horizontally in the opposite direction of the clouds where it disappeared in a matter of seconds. I was flabbergasted not only by the nature of the sighting but of how close to the ground the fireball was. It couldn't have been much higher than the planes when taking off or landing at the runway. The runway runs east-west and the fireball traveled across the runway north-south.
