orange hovering lights above salt lake city
It looked like a flare in the sky (without any smoke trail) a bright orange glow around a bright red center. There were two at first but I lost track of the second one. They weren't falling like flares though, they were moving across the sky slowly, hovering in place and then slowly moving on before stopping again. I watched it move very slowly across the sky from the south to the north east. There was no perceivable engine noise like a jet or helicopter, it wasn't far from the ground... helicopters fly over the valley all the time but you can hear those for miles. It was moving too slow to be a jet. I like to think I'm good at identifying aircraft, its been a hobby of mine since I was a kid and have been to over 50 airshows over the years. After about two minutes observing from outside my car, the light went out and I lost it for a second, but found it again silhouetted against the clouds from the city lights...it was a dark, non-reflective oval shape that continued along NE towards the Wasatch mountains
