2013-12-13 - Madison, IL - Light

Bright bluish white light slowly moves across sky and then disappears directly above me

I was driving to work on I-55 westbound, just past Illinois Rte 111. I noticed a bright bluish white light hovering in the sky. It was a solid light with a slight flicker. It resembled a planet, similar to Venus. As I travel this area daily, the light seemed out of place. I watched closely and it appeared to slowly move toward my position. I slowed to about 55 mph on the interstate and looked at the object through the top of my windshield. Afraid that I was going to cause an accident in the early morning traffic, I decided to take the first available exit so that I could pull over and observe the object. I exited onto Northbound Illinois Rte 203 with plans to stop at the Gateway Truck Plaza to watch the object. While exiting, watching the light, and trying not to run off of the ramp, the light just disappeared. I opened the moon roof and no longer saw the object. I continued to the Gateway Truck Plaza and parked and exited my vehicle to scan the s! ky. The sky was lightly cloudy, but above me, and where the object was, was completely clear. The morning light was very faint and there were stars that were still visible. After scanning the sky it was evident that nothing could be hiding behind clouds, as there were none in the area where the object was. I would estimate at the time of disappearance, the object was at about 5000 ft. I am a Mechanical Engineer and consider myself of sound mind. What I witnessed this morning has left me perplexed. Did anyone else see this?
