2013-11-15 - Des Moines, IA - Light

30-40 glowing, orange lights drifted across the sky, very low, over Des Moines, not losing altitude until they passed from view.

At 9:20pm on November 15th, I saw 30 to 40 bright orange lights drifting through the sky about the East side of Des Moines. There was no discernable symmetrical pattern, but they all went the same way, as though being carried by the same stream of wind. My first thought was that there was a fire, and these were embers. But there was no smoke, they did not flicker and die as embers do, and they maintained altitude until they drifted out of view. Notice I do not say “flew” because they were very small and did not seem to be operating under any source of power. Think “floating.” I do not believe in extra-terrestrial life, let alone visitation, so I am searching for a scientific explanation.
