Large Rotating Metallic Cylinder Slowly Traverses Sky.
At 6:10 pm September 30, 2013, in the sky above south Austin, Texas, I observed a large highly reflective shiny metallic cylinder traversing the sky at a steady rate of speed.
The cylinder from my perspective appeared to have a length 3-4 times the size of the sun as viewed from the ground, and as it traveled across the sky it steadily rotated about its axis approximately once per second. The surface was highly reflective and the crystal clear sky and viewing conditions were ideal.
The Austin Bergstrom International Airport is within 4 miles of my location, and my view to the east showed airplanes taking off and landing normally as the object shared the sky with them. All other visible aircraft in the sky at the time yielded audible characteristic engine sounds, but the passing cylinder was producing no audible sound.
A short video was made with a cellphone camera, but excitement prevented the operator from realizing the focus mode was inappropriately set to macro, yielding a video that only falls into appropriate focus for a few short frames.
((NUFORC Note: We spoke via telephone with the witness, and he sounded quite sincere and sober-minded to us. We suspect that he is a reliable and capable witness. PD))
