2013-07-21 - Wilton Manors, FL - Sphere

Solid black sphere hangs motionless and soundless in windy sky.

On a warm, cloudy and breezy evening in the south Florida city of Wilton Manors in the Fort Lauderdale metropolitan area, I was out for a walk when I suddenly noticed a solid black sphere hovering motionless in the sky. The object hung below the rapidly drifting clouds and above the height of the power lines, and despite a strong easterly breeze it did not change position, it was absolutely still! At my distance below the black sphere my best judgment of its size is to compare it to looking at a solid black bowling ball from 50 feet away. There was still plenty of daylight in the cloudy evening sky to see the object clearly and it appeared to be motionless, solid and silent. Planes from the nearby and very busy Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale International Airport could be heard but this thing did not seem to be making any audible sound.

I thought I could get under it but it disappeared or at least I could no longer locate it in the sky. I looked away for a mere second to check for traffic before crossing NE 20th Drive and when I looked back to the position in the sky where this thing had been sitting it was no longer there. I scanned the as much of the visible sky as I could take in for several minutes but could no longer locate the object.
