Orange lights alternating in a straight line several miles out above the ocean.
My wife and I were grilling dinner outside, facing the Cherry Grove beach, approximately 100 yards from the shore. We looked up around 9:00pm (give or take a few minutes) on the night of Thursday, 6/20/13 and saw an orange light appear out over the ocean. I would guess the light was anywhere from 3-5 miles out to sea.
I initially thought it was a distress flair from a ship, but I noticed after a few seconds that the light had remained totally still. It did not flicker or waver or move at all.
After several seconds, a second light appeared to the left of the first light. It was identical to this first light. These two lights would then alternate with one being on and one being off for a few seconds, then a third and fourth light appeared, again to the left of the original two lights. The pattern of alternating with one being on then off continued for a few more seconds before the lights all went off but for one. This one lingered for a few more seconds before! finally just disappearing altogether.
The whole time there were no sounds heard. Simply orange lights out in the sky that we could not explain, as they did not behave like distress flairs nor like any known aircraft we are aware of.
