2013-01-24 - Sunerland, MA - Fireball

While driving North on Rte 47 in N. Hadley, Massachusetts (USA), I saw a large bright white comet-fireball-looking light/phenomenon vertically dropping in a slight arc around the area of what appeared to be Mt. Toby in S. Deerfield, although it was difficult to estimate exact location. The phenomenon looked too large, too close and too bright to be a falling or shooting star. It appeared to be what I would imagine a comet to look like except for its large size and apparent nearness. It seemed to fizzle out before reaching the ground (horizen). It would be similar to the intensity of someone shooting off fireworks before the mid-air explosion except that it was going DOWN instead of straight up. There were no sounds detecte.d It seemed to last about just under 2 seconds.

Very startling. I have not seen anything like it before.
