sparkling comet or fireball that split in mid air
We were leaving to go to dinner, as we drove down a small hill we saw in the distance what at first we thought was a comet. We all agreed that we were seeing the same thing. We came to a stop sign and continued to watch the object.
At first it appeared to be falling with a tail that we can best describe as a tail of "sparklers". It slowed it's descent and seemed to almost stop, then split in half.
Both objects moved horizontally and then descended slightly and seemed to fade, as we tried to get to a better viewpoint, we lost sight of them.
We also noted that there appeared to be aircraft flying past them or nearby.
After searching, we did find a few other people, several miles away who also saw them.
We are still looking for more information!
