9 round, reddish lights in a long, straight row about 30 seconds apart, sighted by 7 visitors on York Beach.
7 of us were visiting York Beach last week, and on Friday, Aug. 18, were down on the beach after dark, near the in-coming tide. We watched in amazement as 9 regulary paced round objects, perhaps 200 feet above us, glided down the length of York Beach and out over Nubble Light, disappearing.
They looked like a string of round lanterns, and glowed reddish with some orange, looking something like a traffic light with a very faint hood across part of the top. We thought they were helicopters shining lights out their open doors, but there were no headlights, there was no sound, and we could see no hint of rotating blades. Could they have been weather balloons of some kind?
