2012-08-15 - Rochdale (Manchester) (UK/England) - Triangle

A small triangular craft with three red lights, one at each point seen in Rochdale on 15th August 2012

I am a web designer and former College Lecturer, and I observed a red light travelling horizontally from right to left across the sky from east to west behind my house in Firgrove, Rochdale on 15th August 2012 (approximately between 21:00 and 22:00)just as it was beginning to get dark. It was at a height of approximately 500 feet and it was the speed of the object that initially drew my attention, as this was faster than anything I had seen previously. The Pennine hills form the horizon to the left, and before reaching these, the light began to descend vertically. As soon as it began to descend it appeared to be a triangular craft as it now showed three red lights in a triangle.

I found it most extraordinary that a craft would descend at that point, as there is no airport or similar facility there and it is close to buildings. Also extraordinary was that it would descend absolutely vertically and at speed.

I would estimate it's height from the ground at around 500 feet did not see it land as it was obscured from my viewpoint by trees in my next door neighbour's garden when it reached approx 200 feet.
