White spherical object sighted just to the west of downtown Las Vegas
While eating lunch on the seventh floor balcony of the Courthouse (RJC) building in downtown Las Vegas, a white object caught my eye to the west about 25 degrees above the horizon. It brightened and dimmed at about a 0.5hz rate, but staying white at all times.
At this point I thought it might just be a grocery bag that caught a thermal updraft.
It moved toward zenith very slowly until becoming stationary at about 60 degrees above the western horizon. The intensity became constant for about 30 seconds, after which it disappeared entirely.
Immediately afterwards, a Grand Canyon tour helicopter flew past the courthouse at about 200 foot altitude.
Seconds after the helicopter passed by, the object reappeared, exhibiting its highest observed brightness, being roughly equivalent to Venus in intensity (when observed at dusk) and just large enough to clearly make out its sharply defined spherical shape with the naked eye. It remained motionless and consistently bright for about two minutes before winking out entirely.
