I was looking out of north facing window seat on a smaller United Airlines flight from LAX to COS. Watching clouds and tracking I-15 below. The I-15 was starting to angle to the north towards Las Vegas. At that time we entered an area with scattered large cumulonimbus clouds about 1 to 1.5 miles to our north and a solid cloud cover below us.
As I was lookng out I saw a dull red type rust colored object the size of a large semi truck cab, It was the shape of a jelly bean with no wings, windows, or any other identifying markers as it flew by. It was about a mile away at the same level we were flying. It was traveling at least twice the speed we were flying. Then it made a sharp left turn as it flew ahead of us and dissapeared into the cloud mass heading north.
