2012-07-04 - Springfield, OR - Circle

I observed a UFO up close for over 2 minutes and only because of my polarized perscription glasses.

I was at a friend’s getting ready to watch the fireworks display. Her house is high on a hill and provides a view extending over 30 miles. Great place to observe the 4th of July fireworks. The sun had just set and the sky was mostly clear with a few high light clouds making up less than 20% of the sky. There were some early participant’s shooting off their individual items but the big show, just below us, was not due to begin for at least another 30 minutes.

I suddenly noticed a circular black object over the center of Eugene at about 2000 feet high begin to approach where we were sitting. I looked at it for 20-30 seconds and realized it was definitely a craft about 1 mile away and moving about 50 mph towards us. I shouted to my friend and daughter to look “just above the power lines” at what I was certain was a UFO. 30 seconds later they could not see what I could see so clearly.

In frustration I removed my glasses and said how can you not see this? I tur! ned and pointed and it was gone! I put my glasses back on and it was right there again!

I immediately understood my polarizing prescription glasses allowed me to see it but it was impossible to view without them. I began to hand my glasses to my friend realizing it would be fuzzy at best, which she was unable to view anything with “my glasses”. I put them back on only to watch it fade at the same speed away over a tree line in her yard. It was very real, and not an aircraft or parts of any show activities.

I flew Army medevac helicopters for 6 years and have FAA commercial rotor instrument rating as well as FAA part 121 Dispatcher.
