Red-Orange Orb Sighting in Hagerstown Maryland, USA on 03/18/2012
At approximately 21:50 EST I was sitting in my back yard in Hagerstown, MD. I sensed something moving in the air towards the front left dark night sky. I glanced up (due south) and immediately saw a reddish-orange circular orb like object, with a lesser intense aura encompassing the object, traveling in a straight line across the sky from south to north. It was similar to mars in color, however, was much larger (about 4x) to the naked eye. It traveled overhead at an incredible speed, much faster than a jet. I could see actual commercial jets flying around in the sky, and it was nothing like them. It was not any satellite I know of. There were no observable blinking lights, and no shape, other than what I can only describe as an “orb”. It moved very smoothly. I was able to video it on my iPhone for 58 seconds before it was completely out of the line of sight. It had absolutely no sound at all. It remained the same color and brightness, and almost the exact same size during the entire time I witnessed this object.
I am an amateur astronomer, and have never seen anything like this, ever!
