2011-07-28 - Bronco, TX - Light

Strange flying light over Texas / New Mexico border

My husband and I sit out on our front porch every night before bed to stargaze. We live in a rural area so if it isn't cloudy or too moonlit, we can see many stars and satellites.

On the evening of July 28th, a clear night with no moonlight, we spotted what we thought was a satellite. As we watched it fly east, it would slow down, speed up, and wobble. It also made two turns, first to the northeast, and then straight north.

There was no way this light was a satellite, or even a high-flying jet. Since we were unable to identify what we saw, and it behaved in ways that more resembled the flight of a butterfly than a satellite, we decided to make this report.
