There was a bright red light that shot straight up out of the water on the ocean side of the Cheasapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
I was walking on the beach at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base at about 11pm looking towards the Cheasapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel when suddenly a bright red light shot straight up from the water on the other side (ocean side) of the bridge. I am guessing it was between 5 and 10 miles from my location. At first I thought it was some sort of flare, but then it exploded and shot out red sparks without making a sound. At this point the sparks faded, but a single solid red light remained which slowly began to move vertically like an airplane southeast towards the Virginia Beach Coast. I watched it for about 5 minutes when without notice it dissapeared. There was no fading, dimming or blinking at any time of any sort. The red light just immediatley went out. From what I could tell in the darkness there was no contrail on the object before or after it split apart, and it made no sound. I cannot imagine how anyone on the Bay Bridge Tunnel could not have seen t! his, but I have not been able to find another report.
