Unknown craft seen overhead at Dover AFB at midnight on 12/21/2010 on Route 13 south.
Possible UFO Sighting Recently, I watched a great documentary on television that really got me thinking about an event that happened to my wife and me on 12/21/2010 next to Dover Air Force Base in DE about midnight. We were driving to VA from CT.
The night was really dark when we approached Dover. I saw lights ahead of us above the horizon at a great distance from us. Having gone this way to VA in the past, I was used to seeing airplanes coming and going to the airbase. As we approached the base on route 13 south, the lights slowly approached heading north. I was surprised the lights (not blinking but on steady and being white) were taking forever to reach us. Being a private pilot myself, I looked for the normal green and red lights on the wings. The three lights, white, were in a horizontal plane equally spaced. There were no colored lights! Finally, as we passed the base, the craft was directly overhead. I looked up through the open sunroof and the object completely filled the sunroof so I could not see the entire outline of the craft. There was no marking but I could determine the color was gray, what you would expect for a military aircraft. Surprisingly, for being overhead no more that 400 to 600 feet above us, THERE WAS NO NOISE OF ENGINES. I found that very strange for supposedly a large military aircraft.
Days later at home, I searched the Internet looking at large military aircraft at night to see their light arrangement. Nothing I found matched the placement of the lights I saw that night like the C-17, C-5a, etc. That fact always stuck with me as the years passed.
Back to the present, I searched the UFO data base looking for sightings near Dover AFB around that time and date. I found an entry on 12/22/2010 describing a craft seen on a camera at the St. Anthony of Padua Grade School in Wilmington, DE, 54 miles north of the Dover AFB at 7-9 AM. Could that have been the craft I saw? I donโt know for sure but there could be a connection if my craft was slowly heading toward Wilmington, DE. My wife says she saw the outline of the craft as it approached. She said it looked like it had a kite shape. Today was the first time she ever mentioned it to me. So, I personally canโt confirm that fact since I was driving and tried to look at the approaching lights and watch the road ahead at the same time.
As a further note, I have been keeping a personal diary going back to 1979 recording my daily activities. Because of that diary, I looked back through my entries and got the details of our trip that 12/21/2010 trip to VA and compared it to the UFO data base. (This entry made October 8, 2021)
