3 objects in the night sky moving @ high rate of speed.
On Oct. 14/2010 @ aprox. 22:05hrs. I noticed two objects coming from the north, traveling parallel with each other aprox. ½-inch apart as viewed in the night sky, in the area of the big dipper, moving south toward the moon.
As I watched, I noticed there was a third object in front of the first two, approximately three inches in front of them. All three objects were moving at the same rate of speed until they reached directly over head of me. Then the western most object of the two rear objects, pulled ahead of the eastern most object, accelerated, then dropped back. It did this five times while I observed them. They continued on at a very high rate of speed & I lost sight of them as they approached the moon’s glare.
I called the airport & talked airport authority, told him what I saw, and asked if he could call the tower & see if air traffic control had seen anything weird on their radar. When he came back on line he said they hadn’t seen anything on radar & gave me your phone # to report it.
The objects were moving with the speed of a satellite re-entering earth orbit on burn up. Very fast!! It took only about 20 seconds to cover a huge portion of the sky. I would estimate their altitude @ over 30,000 feet. I realize it’s hard to approximate altitude @ night, but they seemed very high.
Description of the objects is as follows, they had a brownish / copper color nucleus in the center, almost square shaped with a weak halo encircling them. The scale of the halo would be the same size if you placed a dime over top of Jupiter in the night sky. The color is what made me notice them, they seemed darker than the night sky and were blocking out starlight as they came toward me. The halo was a perfect sphere with a very pale bluish, white light to it, almost transparent. The intensity of the object never changed, but the clarity of my view improved as they went directly overhead of me. The size is as stated previously, approximately Jupiter sized object as viewed in the night sky, with the halo extending approximately the size of dime if laid over Jupiter.
I am a amateur astronomer, with a 12" Mead LX200 scope. I was out in the night sky since dusk & my eyes had adapted to the low light. Unfortunately I did not get the chance to put the scope on the objects as they were moving very fast & I just was too excited & didn’t want to miss what I was seeing or lose them in the night sky. I have view comets, chased satellites with my naked eye & scope. Spent countless hours observing the stars & sky’s at night and never have seen anything like this before. The thing that really got me was when the one object accelerated & dropped back several times, nothing in the night sky does that!! I have lived by the airport for 11 years & observed all kinds of aircraft @ night, it definitely was not any type of aircraft. I did think it was a satellite until I noticed the second object & then a third object which led me to the realization that they were U.F.O.’S!!!!
