Dull red or octagonal object flying west to east and observed with 10X50 binoculars.
On October 8th, 2010 at about 12 AM, I was looking at the stars with my 10X50 binoculars in the direction of constellation of Cassiopeia; I was trying to find the Andromeda galaxy when I viewed an unknown aircraft flying from west to east. I do not know how high it was. Because it was dark, it appeared to be oval, but if may have had straight edges like an octagon. It did not appear to have wings. It was difficult to tell if it was an oval or an octagon because the color of the object appeared to be a dull red; I don't know if the color of the underside was because it may have had a matted surface which dully reflected mercury vapor street lamps from below or whether the color of the underside was glowing. The object had no aviation marker lights. I moved swiftly and silently. I did not track it without the binoculars.
To the north is the San Gabriel Mountains. To the west of my house is Los Angeles International Airport; I can see in the distance the landing lights of the planes; depending on weather airliners will pass over my house. To the east is Ontario International Airport, since I live on a hill and have deck over the my garage I can see airliners with their marker lights on departing Ontario airport. To the northeast is El Monte Airport. There was a slight breeze, but not enough to turn the ventilation turbines on the roof of my house.
I do not think that it was a novelty Mylar balloon because the underside of the object was parallel with the ground as it was flying. I have seen the B-2 bomber in flight during the day and this was not that.
