Black "Boomerang" shaped aircraft hovering over field outside Dixon, IL on August 15, 2010
I could not identify this aircraft. I have no doubt that someone at any time could tell me matter of fact that "this is a ____", however I've never seen one, and it caught my attention because it was hovering in the air above a field close to Dixon, IL.
I was on my way home from Iowa and was on I88 heading east to go back to our west suburban home, when my daughter and I both spotted the black boomerang (kind of) shaped aircraft hovering over a field (at least it appeared to be over a field because it was off in the distance a ways). It was north of the highway, and I wanted to stop but was traveling too fast. I told my daughter "quick!! grab my camera!" She handed it to me and I snapped three photos before it was out of range. (2 of them are rather blurry, as I was in a moving vehicle) The one thing that was so strange to me is that when I first noticed it, it looked like a flat pencil shape in the sky, but did not appear to be moving forward or backward or up or down. By the time I took the photos I was closer to it and it appears to have a boomerang-like shape, and a "bubble" type cockpit.
There was one other vehicle that had managed to pull over (I assume for the same reason?) but they were on the other side of the road heading westbound.
