High speed illuminated object traveling above treetops.
While in my vehicle with my wife, we were stopped at a stop sign and suddenly saw a low flying object, within 100 fee of the tree tops, come directly across our field of vision. The object was metallic, unlike an airplane but of similar size to a small plane. It was also illuminated by lights (non-blinking) and traveled at very high speeds. We observed briefly believing the trajectory and speed meant it was about to crash but realized it never did and disappeared once dipping below tree top distance into a wooded area.
The area where this was observed is within 1.5 miles from our home and one we are very familiar with. In addition, both my wife and I are very familiar with small private planes and military aircraft that use local airports. This object was distinctly different and beyond our ability to explain. The only other explanation we can offer is perhaps it was some form of unmanned drone from the local airport although it did not appear to be a plane and did not contain blinking lights.
My wife and I are long term residents of the area, in our late 40's, and I am a former criminal investigator but would like to avoid public knowledge and any ridicule from the reporting of this event.
