Bright light moving across the sky over Kealakekua Bay.
We are in a vacation home on the south side of Kealakekua Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii. Our house faces west, out over the ocean.
At approximately 8:30 PM, a very bright orange/yellow light appeared in the southwest sky about 30 degrees above the horizon. The light travelled in a north east direction and became larger and more intense as it approached us.
It was difficult to guage the distance offshore. After traveling towards us for about 30 to 40 seconds, the light was immediately west of us and it slowed and paused for about 10-15 seconds. After the pause the light moved qickly to the north and upwards, gaining elevation very quickly. It got smaller and was out of sight in 10-15 seconds.
We have witnessed several helicopter and small aircraft sightseeing flights during daylight hours over the bay and those craft can be heard. The light made no sound, or at least none that we could hear.
