Shooting star has a mind of its own...
At 3 AM on December 14th 2008 I was on a boat coming in from a long night out. Our vessel was coming into a pier on the Seattle waterfront. I was a crew member who had to set my lines (to tie up the vessel) on the stern (back of the boat), and we were about 10 minutes out from the pier.
Since the boat was large I could not communicate or see the captain or the mate >>(who was getting lines ready at the front of the boat).
Since I had to stay at the stern, I just waited and looked around. I looked west across Elliott Bay, across the Puget Sound and to the Olympic Mountains. ( the Olympics are about 40-50 miles west of Seattle) It was a cold beautiful night, lots of stars and a few clouds at the base of the Olympics. At the southern part of the mountain range I saw a shooting star falling hard and fast from the sky . I thought “cool” I’m going to make a wish! The star started to intensify getting brighter. I began to think to myself “WOW, that thing is going to smash into the mountains and there’s going to be a huge flash” But as it came down, it stopped abruptly halfway down the mountain range, turned a glowing red and shot horizontally northward. The red light never blinked or changed color.
It moved so fast that I could not believe what I was seeing!? It moved faster than anything I have ever seen. As it moved, it illuminated the cloud formations nestled along the lower side of the mountain range.
I watched it until it disappeared at what I could say was Hurricane Ridge, Port Angles area ( I know it disappeared northwesterly of the Olympics.)
