Disappearing cigar shape
On Thursday, August 7th, 2008, around 6pm CST, my son and I saw a cigar shaped object hovering in the sky. I noticed it first, and then asked my son "Do you see that over there in the sky?" He's 11, and I did not want to prompt him, so we could compare what we saw later.
We both saw the same thing: It was a horizontal cigar shape, white and silver coloring. It was not moving. It seemed to have some kind of white mist venting from it's ends. (Picture a hot dog with steam coming out both ends)
I was glancing between it and the road, and saw it clearly for a full two minutes. Then I looked at the road, glanced back up, and it was gone.
There is a very small airfield nearby. I'd say it was about 1 mile directly north of the airport, and not very high in the sky.
