2004-09-01 - Rialto, CA - Circle

large red circle (probably sphere) seen in broad daylight moving slowly and changing direction.

Out of the four or five objects that I have seen in my life that I could not identify, this event is the only one that I would not be able to replicate (if I were someone who wanted to make a UFO hoax) due to its distance, size, and actions. I'm only reporting this now because it was only recently that I remembered it. In other words, since the day it happened, I never thought about it or remembered it until about a year ago. This is one of two incidents that I had not recalled since they happened but the other incident was when I was a kid, where I woke up in the backyard around 1 am, my pajamas were damp as if I had been swimming with them on but I don't remember swimming in my pajamas, nor do I remember putting them on or going to bed. It was the night of my birthday and there was a birthday party that day but I don't remember my party at all and there was no sighting as far as I know. Neither one of these incidents should be easily forgotten but somehow they were until recently.

Anyway I was watering the grass in my front yard at about 1 pm in the afternoon on a very clear, sunny day. As I looked low in the sky to the West, I could see, through a clearing in the tall trees, something that looked just like a red traffic light which was hovering and perfectly centered between those trees. If you extend your arm and look at your index fingernail for perspective -- it was about that size, maybe a bit smaller.

I watched it for a while and then I took a few steps to the side so I could get some perspective as to how far away it was. I figured that the farther away it was, the quicker those trees between it and myself would block my view of it (just as you would move to the side if you were trying to see something but there's a person standing in front of it).

As I walked to the side I saw that the object was quite a distance away and only the side of it was now barely visible due to the tree blocking most of it from my view. as far as its size, it had to be many feet across since it appeared to be two to three miles away. I continued to water the lawn, but kept an eye on it as I tried to come up with a scenario that could explain a giant red light hovering in the sky during the middle of the day. Then, slowly, it moved sideways until it was in full view again, perfectly centered in the clearing between the trees.

The way it moved was really interesting because it moved like a rolling ball that was nudged. For instance, in a game of pool (or billiards depending on where you're from I guess) when you just barely tap the cue ball so it moves a half a foot -- That's how this thing moved, like it was tapped in that direction. So from a dead stop it instantly begins to move with no acceleration time noticeable, and then it slowly rolls to a stop right in the center of that clearing between the trees.

Now I'm thinking, "What the...?" So After 20 or 30 seconds I take a few steps in the other direction, causing my view of it to, once again, be obscured by the trees between it and myself, although I could see the red light twinkling through the tree. Within about 5 seconds the object, again as if it were nudged to the side, begins moving and rolls to a stop, perfectly centered between those trees.

Now I'm convinced that this thing is watching me and I drop that water hose and run inside to get a friend to come out and see this thing. Didn't take more than 15 seconds to return to the front yard with my friend, but when we got out there that thing was gone.

So, as I was saying, given the size and distance of the object I can't think of a way someone could create a hoax within those parameters.

1. It would not be cheap because a very large red light would have to be constructed, and it would have to be bright enough to see in the middle of the day. it would also have to be suspended quite high in the air a few miles away (which would, based on direction and viewing angle, probably put it in the flight path of Miro Field (Rialto Municipal Airport).

2. It would have to be equipped with a camera and controlled remotely if we are to believe that it was moving in order to have a better view of me. Such an elaborate hoax merely for the purpose of fooling one person would be so costly and pointless. Also I don't know of any means of remote control/propulsion that could cause it to move the way it did.

Also, on the form, I have checked "I would like to be contacted by and investigator" that is only to say that if someone has any questions I don't mind if they call/contact me and would be happy to speak with them. It's not a request for contact though because I know you're very busy.
