Bright white orb of light aprox. 10 yards away, seen very well with naked eye by 4 witnesses.
About 16 years ago, I was with my mom, my stepdad (at the time), my grandma, and my sister, at a family orientation weekend put together by SUNY Delhi. My brother was going to be starting his first year of college there. Our whole family stayed in a motel for the weekend somewhere between Delhi NY, and Walton NY, along route 10. On our way to the motel, about 10-15 minute down route 10 we saw a very clear, and very close, self contained, basketball sized, orb of light. It floated across route 10 right in front of our car. It came out of the woods on the left side of the road, about 30-40 yards ahead of us. It floated approximately 5 ft above the ground the entire time, moving across the road in a horizontal movement, keeping it's height, and speed, consistent to about 5 mph, or a brisk walking pace. It was dark outside so it was fully illuminated by our headlights, and clearly visible. Since we were driving towards it as it crossed the road, it arrived a! t the treeline on the right side of the road as we were parallel to it in passing. I was in the back seat and watched it float off into the woods about 40 more yards before we were too far to see it anymore through the thick foliage of the Catskill region. Everyone in the car saw it, and we are all still extremely mystified by it to this day. It's nice to have had others see it also, but it's hard to convince people who haven't seen it for themselves. I also admit that I am particularly skeptical of orbs seen in the sky, or caught on cameras, and in photographs, even after having seen one within 10-20 yards, with my own eyes. This is in part due to there being far more potential for misidentification with something so far away, and mixed in with other bright lights like stars, and planes. But this was as clear as day, up close, with the naked eye, and with 4 witnesses. We could, and would all pass a lie detector test with flying colors if asked about what we saw on that am! azing night. And to be totally clear, there is absolutely no d! oubt beh ind what we all saw that night. No optical illusion, reflections, flashlights, or pranksters. I still have hope that there will be some resolution to this mystery, even though it has been 16 years. I regret not coming forward about that amazing experience sooner!
