2003-11-06 - Portland, OR - Light

Yellow/orange light in evening sky followed by military jet activity

I was unloading my car at my apartment and I noticed a gold/orangey light in the sky, I was facing South. It was really bright, which caught my attention because normally Portland at night is really cloudy and you can't see much. Anyway, I noticed the object and I got an "eerie" feeling, for lack of a better word. It was just one light, no blinking. It came from the west, not terribly fast, then it seemed to slow down, but was still moving. No sound. There is lots of airplane activity around where I live, so usually it would be no big deal. I know what the commercial planes look like at night, and it wasn't one I am used to seeing. Just when I was ready to brush it off as a weird plane the object began to move erratically, "jerking" in strange ways. I turned around and shut the trunk of the car, which caused me to face north and then I turned back around and it was gone. I got a weird feeling and started walking back to the apartment. Just as I reached the door I heard military jets do a fly over, it was weird though because I couldn't see them when I just saw the light a moment ago. I have no idea if it was just one plane or what but it was really loud. I then went inside my apartment and told my husband, who seemed unimpressed. Also, NOT SURE on the time, I approximated.
