In the summer of 2000 we were sitting at the riverside having a beer.
When I heard something like a fire cracker, high up in the air.
As I looked up, I saw something odd.
It was glowing, seemed to be at least a few hundred meters up in the sky, at least the size off a firm car and was shaped rectangular.
I heard the sound off a (small) fire cracker (plus echo) again and in a ray off light it moved through the sky. Within a second it stopped with the same double fire cracker sound.
It had moved for at least some hundreds off meters, where it hovered again without a sound.
This was repeated two times, the last time it moved beyond sight, back in north eastern direction.
What amazed me was the sound it made, there was no other sound than “the double fire cracker’, while I would have expected the sound of artillery.
This sound seemed to be the sound that air makes when an object moves so fast that it leaves a vacuum.
There was no other sound to be heard then a massive silence.
No jet- or rocket like sound which seemed to be needed to reach such velocities
