Spotted flying approx 250 ft above rooftops, craft 100ft long approx. Six to eight lights on each side of central red light. Hovering and slowing over Rookery Park area of Calne. No noise at all. RAF Lyneham stated that only one Hercules aircraft was flying over the area at the time. Does not fit the physical description, sound of that type of aircraft.
Leaving Rookery Park area by car, the two of us noticed lights above the rooftops. They were in a straight line, 6 to 8 white lights on either side of a red central light. The object seemed to be hovering horizontally some 250 ft above the rooftops and appeared to be about 100 ft long. We stopped the car and got out to listen. We couldnt hear anything. The only aircraft flying in the area was a Hercules from RAF Lyneham. We often have Hercules flying over the town and they have a distinctive drone sound, are easily identifiable. We called Air Traffic Control who couldnt say what we had seen, although they said it had too many lights for a Hercules. The object seemed to move sideways through the air, without 'banking' to turn and began to hover. At this point we lost sight of it. We could not see any other features apart from the row of lights.
