A brilliant white light that grew in intensity until it lit everything up and an inverted Y shape of smoke

I was taking my dog for a walk prior to leaving for work I did not see anybody else around, there was no sound the whole sky ground everything was lit up with a blinding white light the brightness increased gradually until it was so bright I had to shut my eyes and I could still see the glow through my eye lids.

As the light started to fade I was able to open my eyes again and saw an inverted Y outlined in "smoke" I can't describe it any other way, the inverted Y just hung in the sky taking up almost every part of the night sky, there was no explosion or any other noise.

From my position (facing approximately north) the inverted Y had no debris in it (such as the space shuttle re-entry disaster did) there was absolutely nothing reported in the local paper even after I phoned and reported what I had seen in case it was a plane and there were injured survivors I had to call the Manchester Evening News, it was like a total news blackout on the subject

To this day no matter who I speak to about it never saw it. I have reported this to MUFON previously but have never hears anything back. My dog became very anxious growling looking around trying to go deeper into the wooded area we were near I would have investigated further but I had to leave for work soon, I went back tot he same general area for a few days after but found nothing.
