This is a classic report. I have never been able to forget it. I did report it to LAMUFON and I was contacted about it. We spoke for at least 1/2 hour.
It was about 5 AM around May 1997. I was walking to Griffith Park to do my morning work out. As I was going west down Franklin Ave., I noticed (how could I not notice it, it was HUGE) a large very bright egg-shaped object slowly going across the horizon at about 15 or 20 degrees. As it moved from behind some trees I was surprised at how large it was. As it continued across the open space between the trees and the houses on the other side of the street it came into complete view and I could see the whole object. (Did I say it was HUGE?) As it continued to move past I could see the rear of the object and saw sparks sputtering out of it. When it got to the other side of the street, it disappeared, and I didn't see it after that. One of the things I thought was interesting was that the light coming off of the object, as bright as it was, didn't throw shadows and there was no sound.
I was teaching at the East Los Angeles College South Gate Campus at the time. About a week later one of my students came to me and apologized for coming in late to the class lately. He said he had the midnight shift at LAX. I asked him, "Were you working last Thursday?" He said, "Yes." Then, I asked "Did you happen to see any...?" That's all I got out. In a surprised voice he said, "We ALL saw it. We said, 'What the **** us that?' It was way out over the ocean." Interesting when an object is verified by others from a different perspective.
