Flat, Round, Fully Illuminated UFO over Neighbor's House - Dec 1978 - Albuquerque, NM

The date is approximate, I don't know what the exact day was in December of 1978

I was 8 years old and being walked across the street to my house by my friend Lynette after dark. I looked down to step up on the curb and curb lite up as if a car was coming so both myself and my friend looked up and down the street. When we looked up there was a large circular UFO (flat and round like a quarter) glowing the brightest white you can imagine. It was on its side, like when you hold a coin before you spin it. I couldn't see any metal surfaces, but there were two large shapes on the bottom of it that were stark black and not lit up. On the left side it looked like an upside down L next to that another L shape right-side up. The black areas were large and took up a good deal of space on the bottom of the object. The UFO was perfectly round (while on its side) and had no protrusions or colored lights. It was completely silent, not even a hum. There was no fluctuation of light at all. It slightly smaller than the length of the home it was hovering over and at a height just above the trees (I'm guessing about 30 ft at most). It was lighting up the house and street surrounding it including down to where we were standing - approximately four houses down. We just stood and stared at it for what seemed to be about 30 seconds to a minute and it suddenly shot off at roughly a 45 degree angle until we lost it in the sky due to it becoming as small as the stars in the sky. It didn't accelerate to that speed it simply took off at a break-neck speed without turning and was gone. We ran in my house to tell my parents and brothers but know one would believe us and laughed it off. It took about 5 years of repeatedly telling my dad for him to acknowledge that something happened that we can't explain.
