Black object moving over railroad tracks
My friend and I were staying at his family cabin next to the river. We were headed to different colleges in Sept so this was a kind of departing trip - the end of High School and the start of a new chapter in life. During the days we would hang out at the river, hike around, fish, etc. But at night we would go to a bench next to the railroad tracks because the stars were visible. Yes, we would drink and carry on until well drunk, like normal 18 year old boys.
I want to emphasize we were completely sober during the sighting.
The night of sighting, just as the sun had set, we started walking to the bench. The path took us alongside the creek, over a bridge, and then a footpath through the forest. We were chatting and walking through the forest which was quite dense with tall Douglas fir. The path through the forest ended with the clearing made for the railroad tracks. The tracks were on a raised gravel berm of sorts with about 10feet of gravel on either side, then another 10 feet or so of dirt.
My friend was walking ahead of me and just as we entered the clearing, he stopped abruptly. I actually ran into him gently as he stared. I was literally looking over his shoulder. We both looked up and it seemed like there was some kind of giant black object or shape in front of us. I can’t say anything about the contours or dimensions but something massive was in front of us. The object then accelerated instantly to something like 1,000 mph are shot southwards down the tracks in under half a second. The curvature of the tracks in this mountainous area was such the trains in that area move at a crawl. Some have suggested it could have been a runway train but that is simply not possible - nor did it sound anything like a train which makes a clack-clack-clack sound. Whatever it was seemed to be hovering above the tracks and when it became aware of our presence and shot away instantly.
It did not make any wind that I can recall, but I felt an incredible low-frequency vibration in my body, like a deep bass note at a concert. Also, the fencing and other outbuildings further down the tracks shook with this low frequency energy as it zipped off - the craft itself did not seem to make any noise but the rumble vibrated everything on each side of it.
It was terrifying and we ran back to the cabin. We didn't really understand when it was happening that this was a UFO. It was not a "lights up in the sky" sighting, this thing was less than 20 feet from us. I cannot overstate how incomprehensible this event was and how scared we were.
